Baghdad Friday Imam: Iraq must take a stand in regional conflicts

Ayatollah Seyyed Yassin Mousavi, the Friday prayer imam of Baghdad and a prominent professor at the Najaf Seminary, warned against falling into the illusion of neutrality in regional geopolitical conflicts, emphasizing that Iraq is now known as an influential and key player in regional and global developments and cannot be separated from its surroundings or shirk its responsibility for its presence in the conflicting axes.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Ayatollah Seyyed Yassin Mousavi, the Friday prayer imam of Baghdad and a prominent professor at the Najaf Seminary, warned against falling into the illusion of neutrality in regional geopolitical conflicts, emphasizing that Iraq is now known as an influential and key player in regional and global developments and cannot be separated from its surroundings or shirk its responsibility for its presence in the conflicting axes.

Referring to developments on the international scene, Ayatollah Mousavi stated that talking about neutrality within the framework of the current world order is nothing more than an illusion and that international politics no longer allows any country to remain isolated from its regional interactions. He addressed the changes in the global power equations, especially after the emergence of the United States as the sole superpower after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and severely criticized the policies of Donald Trump, the current US President.

The prominent scholar of the Najaf seminary continued by stating,” Trump is seeking to impose global dominance beyond politics and even in the field of religion; something that is clearly contrary to the tradition of separation of church and state in the West, to the extent that Trump has claimed to want to be the “Pope” of Christians.”
