Palestinian detainees face systematic torture and starvation in Israeli jails; 550 women detained since Gaza genocide

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office has reported that at least 545 Palestinian women have been abducted since October 7, 2023. Testimonies reveal systematic torture, starvation, and abuse in Israeli prisons

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office has released a statement detailing the latest conditions of female Palestinian detainees held in Israeli prisons and detention centers.

According to the statement issued on Monday, at least 545 Palestinian women have been abducted since October 7, 2023, when Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza. This figure does not include those kidnapped within the besieged Gaza Strip during the same period.

Currently, at least 47 female prisoners remain in Israeli custody, including a child and two pregnant women.

New testimonies from Palestinian detainees have exposed systematic torture and abuse against female prisoners.

Reports document repeated beatings, threats, starvation, and isolation inflicted upon the detainees.

Most of the charges against female prisoners relate to “incitement,” and eight women are being held under Israel’s controversial administrative detention policy.

Administrative detention allows Israeli authorities to imprison Palestinians without charge or trial.

The statement also highlighted that women are being used as hostages to exert pressure on persecuted individuals.

Further testimonies confirm that detainees have endured severe physical torture and systematic starvation, with some losing half their body weight.

“The poor and substandard food provided leads to illness and severe weight loss,” the group stated.

Palestinian media have also reported on the harsh conditions faced by female prisoners, including verbal abuse, curses, and death threats immediately after their abduction.

One detainee described her experience: “At dawn, bread was forced into my mouth while I was blindfolded, and I was given a small amount of water through a tube.”

She also recounted being struck on the forehead by a soldier while sleeping.

The woman was later transferred to the notorious Hasharon prison, where she endured further torture.

In March, the Palestine Prisoners Studies Center reported that Israel had intensified its aggressive policies against female Palestinian detainees. The center urged the international community to break its silence and take action against Israeli crimes.

The Israeli rights group B’Tselem previously stated that Israeli authorities systematically abuse Palestinian prisoners in detention camps established after the October 7 al-Aqsa operation. Detainees have reportedly been subjected to severe violence and sexual assault.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 38 Palestinians since Monday morning, including 27 in northern Gaza.

Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of more than 54,000 Palestinians, most of whom are women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
