AhlulBayt News Agency: There are conflicting claims regarding Hamas' agreement to a ceasefire proposal put forth by U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
According to Mehr, on Monday, Xinhua cited a source close to Hamas stating that the resistance group had accepted Witkoff’s plan to halt hostilities in Gaza. Additionally, Reuters quoted an unnamed Palestinian official confirming Hamas' acceptance of the proposal.
According to the Times of Israel, the proposed agreement would involve a two-month ceasefire during which Hamas would release around 10 living hostages and 10 bodies of hostages, alongside the release of hundreds of Palestinian security prisoners. The plan also includes negotiations on a permanent truce, with the U.S. guaranteeing that Israel will remain engaged in the talks. Previous negotiations collapsed in March after Israel refused to participate in discussions on a lasting ceasefire.
However, conflicting reports have emerged from U.S. media. Axios reported that Witkoff himself has denied claims that Hamas accepted his ceasefire proposal, describing Hamas' response as “disappointing and completely unacceptable.”
With contradictory statements from various sources, the situation remains unclear as both sides navigate the delicate path toward a possible truce.
